SAR Project Engineer

Position Summary 
The SAR Project Engineer will be responsible for growing and leading an Engineering team to design and develop Alpha Insights’ next generation of spaceborne synthetic aperture radar payloads.
Essential Job Functions 
  • Lead the overall technical direction of the team and coordinate activities with subcontractors.
  • Manage the technical teams, including overall direction, coordination of high-level tasking, training and staff planning.
  • Work with the Project Manager and team leads to coordinate the day-to-day activities of the technical team. This includes leading status meetings and participating in monthly progress meetings, progress reports, reviews, etc.
  • Work with System engineers to ensure the designs done by the engineering team meet or exceed the flowed down requirements.
  • Lead the technical risk management. Support program schedule and cost activities. Overall ownership of the technical project planning.
  • Establish, maintain, and evolve engineering processes through the project life cycle.
  • Identify and procuring engineering tools to support development activities.
  • Participate in business development activities to win new contracts
  • Define and drive areas of research and development to keep our technology at the head of the pack
Minimum Education 
  • B.Sc. or higher in electrical or electronic engineering or equivalent
  • 10+ years’ experience in radar, digital signal processing, high-speed digital design (500MHz and above)
  • Experience with designing for space is an asset

  • Experience with radar/sonar systems development
  • Experience managing and leading multi-disciplinary engineering teams
  • 15 years in space or relevant industry
  • Leadership and good communication skills
  • Exposure to RF, software and firmware (FPGA) development
  • Experience managing engineering processes surrounding the product life cycle of low volume, high value products

Additional Skills
  • Exposure to space radiation environment testing and mitigation techniques
  • Phased array systems, preferably synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems and techniques
  • Mechanical and thermal design of space electronics units
  • Supervising the subcontract manufacturing of high-speed circuit boards and electronics assemblies
  • Embedded software development: C, C++, RTOS
